Renewing the Legitimacy of Learning: A Symposium on Academic Integrity
Many campuses are now reporting significant spikes in honor code violations, often doubling, tripling, or quadrupling from comparisons with previous semesters. Recent articles in Forbes, the Washington Post, and the Wall Street Journal have chronicled the rapid acceleration of cheating, the scope of which threatens the integrity of higher education and the value of the college degree. The Association of American Colleges and Universities (AAC&U) and the International Center for Academic Integrity (ICAI) are hosting the Academic Integrity Symposium. Bringing together the voices and experiences of students, faculty, and administrators, this symposium will explore the scope of current challenges to academic integrity while also providing clear guidance for campuses seeking to address these challenges. The solutions explored will include ideas for teaching faculty, considerations for campus IT leaders, and recommendations for honor system participants. Those attending this symposium will leave this virtual event with a clear understanding of the scope of the academic integrity challenge as well as strategies for addressing the challenge within their own institutional context.
